Testing
What is measured on every metre, what is measured per lot, and what the document states.
On every metre
| Property | Method | Resolution | Recorded |
|---|---|---|---|
| Diameter | In-line laser micrometer | 0.001 mm | Recorded against the spool |
| Surface | Eddy current | Full length | Drawing marks flagged before packing |
Per lot
| Property | Method | Included | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resistivity | Four-terminal | Standard | Certificate value |
| Tensile and elongation | Per grade | Standard | Certificate value |
| Composition | Melt analysis | On 3.1 | Certificate value |
| Oxidation life | Cycling test | On request | Report |
Why elongation is on the certificate
A wire that meets its resistance but cracks at the first tight bend is a scrap element, not a wire defect the winder can see beforehand. Elongation is the number that predicts it, so it is measured and printed rather than assumed from the grade.
Documents
- EN 10204 3.1 material certificate with heat number and measured values
- EN 10204 3.2 where a third party witnesses, arranged before packing
- Dimensional report for a named spool
- Resistivity record for a named batch
